一頓難忘的3小時晚餐 @「赤崁璽樓」蔬食餐廳 Chi Kan West House @ Tainan (台南素食 Vegetarian/台南美食/台南蔬食) [Foodie Series] | Steve&Angela FunTV


想當初在美國,Steve和我一開始也是外食一族,但是在美國外食真的很傷荷包,在家吃真的可以省下不少錢,我們從最簡單的料理開始,慢慢到最後可以開始挑戰困難的食譜料理,真的很有成就感,所以平時我們真的很少外食,尤其回到台灣,外食很多都是又油、有重鹹,吃了有時候真的會感覺有點負擔。當然,有時候我們還是會想要外出用餐,享受一下難得的輕鬆時刻,不用備菜、烹煮、洗碗,但是選擇適合的餐廳有時候真的讓我們很傷腦筋。原本以為台南只有小吃,但很意外的讓我們找到位於台南市區的赤崁璽樓,看到赤崁璽樓的蔬食菜單和用餐環境真的讓我們驚艷,讓住在高雄的我們,有藉口去台南玩了!
We always believe that eating suppose to give you energy and a time to relax. It's also a time for you to connect with the flavor of food and enjoy the whole tasting experience. Since we eat at home most of the time, we tried to find something special whenever we eat out. We are so thrilled to reach out by Chi Kan West House in downtown Tainan, where they serve strictly vegetarian cuisine. We couldn’t wait to go have a taste in person!

台南中西區附近有很多有趣的小景點,像是藍晒圖文創園區、林百貨、台南美術館、百貨公司等,赤崁璽樓不在繁忙的大路上,而是藏匿在小巷內,按照Google Map的地圖走,一定可以到得了,但是要慢慢走...慢慢找...,不要當低頭族,隨時要抬頭看招牌提示,不然你就會像我們一樣,一直走過頭!
It was quite a journey for us to find Chi Kan West House! The restaurant is actually located right in downtown Tainan, one of the busiest districts in Tainan. But you really need to follow the direction on the google map well enough or you are going to get super lost and never going to find the restaurant.
小巷子走進去別有洞天,這條巷子裡有好幾個古色古香的老房子,走進去差不多15公尺,就可以看到超級顯著的赤崁璽樓,有別於其他幾棟老房子,赤崁璽樓是一棟四層半的老房子,不但有一個氣派的入口,還有庭院造景呢!
We actually ended up walking back and forth on the same alley for a few times before making the right turn into a much smaller alley. All the houses in this alley have old times character, and you would find Chi Kan West House within 50 ft walking down the alley. 
赤崁璽樓一看就知道是一個很有故事的老房子,於第二次世界大戰結束兩年後蓋的老房子,原屋主是一個皮鞋富商,這還是當時台南的第二高的建築物呢!(台南當時的第一高樓就是現在的林百貨。)
赤崁璽樓看起來古色古香,從裡到外都呈現一致的年代感,連外面的擺設都是經過精挑細選的,真的下重本啊!
Chi Kan West House is a four and a half floor old house with a very authentic Taiwanese old house look. It was built two years after WWII. The previous owner was one of the richest men in Tainan, and his home was the second tallest buildings at that time.
現在的主人是一對夫妻,老闆是學室內設計的,聽說這棟樓荒廢了很久,他們也花了兩年的時間很有心整修這個老房子,房子真的要有人住、有人用心整理才會有人氣。
Chi Kan West House is now owned by a young couple. It took them more than 2 years to remodel and renovate the entire house. When you look closer to the details of the house, you can see all the thoughts and works they put into the Chi Kan West House. 
赤崁璽樓一個完全以蔬食為料理的餐廳,這個讓本來就很少吃肉的我們很開心,我們家平時的餐點,都以吃食物的原形為主,我們吃很少量的肉類,每次出去吃飯都讓我們選不到到底應該要去哪裡吃飯,市面上好吃又特別的蔬食料理真的太少了!
Chi Kan West House offers vegetarian cuisine only. We don't really consume a lot of meat in our daily diet, so we are excited to have someone else prepared some yummy plant based food for us. 
赤崁璽樓要從旁邊的水池石頭步道進出,讓人有一種踏入另一個世界的感覺,脫離了台南中西區繁忙街道的車輛的吵雜,看到水裡的烏龜和小魚真的讓人步步充滿小驚奇!
The entrance of the Chi Kan West House is from the side gate. It's like walking into a different universe, the place is so serene. Underneath the stone passage, there are so many turtles and fishes. The owner creates a friendly environment for the animals to peacefully live together and also on their own. 
Steve超級愛烏龜,看到水裡那麼多隻大烏龜,他超開心的,烏龜和小魚們有充足的活動空間,是一個魚龜共存的活水空間,門口就這麼讓人驚奇了,真的讓人期待轉角後的赤崁璽樓!
Turtles are one of Steve's favorite animals. He was already so excited to just see the turtles at the entrance of Chi Kan West House... and we didn't even get to walk in the restaurant yet.
媽媽特別喜歡古蹟和老房子,赤崁璽樓真的讓媽媽處處充滿小時候的回憶,即使經過整新翻修,但是還是保留古早味的小細節,我喜歡藍色的門框、窗框和建築物的淡色磨石子牆面形成的對比,把赤崁璽樓的特色都彰顯出來。
Welcome to Chi Kan West House! All windows and doors frame are in royal blue color, and I love the contrast it brought to the vision. It really let the 

赤崁璽樓的吧台真的非常特別,乍看下只是一個普通的吧台,但是店家在吧台前面擺放了一整座廟宇的裝飾牌樓,我們細問之下,這是店家特別從高雄小港運來的,是真的廟宇修繕替換下來的原木牌樓,這些牌樓沒有任何釘子或黏膠來固定,通通都是卡榫固定的,把一個普通的吧台增添了一點趣味。
Chi Kan West House is fully decorated with all Taiwanese local elements. It's basically a fun house that was filled up with a combination of early 1900s housing and temple decors. The owner is an interior designer, and he spent a lot of time track down all these elements and have them shipped to Chi Kan West House. Check out their bar, these were taken down from the old temple, and it became a statement piece in the restaurant. 

赤崁璽樓的一樓的用餐空間很多都是一個房間只有一桌,可以享受到隱密包廂式的用餐環境,不用擔心講話太大聲打擾到別人。
Most dining spaces are located in the different individual room. It's perfect for a small family or friends gathering. 
赤崁璽樓的二樓除了包廂式的用餐環境以外,也有傳統10人坐台式大圓桌,宴客/聚會都很實用,赤崁璽樓除了單點及各人套餐之外,也有推出不一樣價格結合中西式的辦桌料理。
On the second floor of Chi Kan West House, there are also banquet style tables for bigger party or special reception. With the vegetarian base cuisine style, Chi Kan West House offers both local Taiwanese and other exotic cuisine style. 


赤崁璽樓有不少戶外的座位,除了一樓之外,這個四層半的老房子,每一層樓都有環繞建築物的戶外陽台,今年七月的南部真的又悶又熱,若在秋冬季節,我一定會選擇坐在屋簷下,一邊享受一下暖冬的太陽,一邊享用美食!
One of the unique places of Chi Kan West House is their surrounded balcony in each floor. You can have options of dining outdoors in the cooler days. 
I like the fact that Chi Kan West House showcase some of the original photos. It's a bitter sweet to look back in times. 



赤崁璽樓的因為是舊房子,每一個隔間都有自己的空調,所以不是每一個空間都會有冷氣,在悶熱的夏天,雖然廁所很有特色,展示了很多古時候的如廁器具,以現在的審美觀,真的覺得古時候的有錢人真的很誇張,連馬桶都要那麼多裝飾,但是赤崁璽樓的廁所就是熱了點、小了點。
You might get a little lost in Chi Kan West House since there are so many little rooms inside the house, but it also might be a fun adventure to look through all different rooms. 
The restroom of Chi Kan West House is really unique, though it's smaller in size and with no AC. Since this is an older house, there is no central air. 

赤崁璽樓一個完全以蔬食為料理的餐廳,這個讓本來就很少吃肉的我們很開心,我們家平時的餐點,都以吃食物的原形為主,我們吃很少量的肉類,每次出去吃飯都讓我們選不到到底應該要去哪裡吃飯,市面上好吃又特別的蔬食料理真的太少了!
Chi Kan West House’s owner now is also an interior designer, and I love his use on all these bold colors. Walking in the Chi Kan West House, just like walking in a old movie scene.
Even the logo are specially design to match vibe of the house!



越式芙蓉春捲 $68
從以前在美國,我們一直都很喜歡越南料理,尤其是越南的生菜春捲,是我們每次必點的餐點,平常的越南春捲是放入川燙過的蝦子,然後配上有碎花生的海山醬,赤崁璽樓則是把越南細米線搭配拌炒過的紅蘿蔔和香菇在春捲皮包進春捲皮裡面,把生菜留到最外層,再淋上酸酸甜甜的香菇醬汁,除了保留越式傳統春捲的涼爽口感,我們更喜歡那個醬汁和細米線結合的味道,很特別也很好吃。
Vietnamese Spring Roll $68 NTD (around $2.20 USD)
We are always a big fan of Vietnamese spring rolls. The flavor is refreshing, and I enjoy the texture and the flavor from the mushrooms in the dish. The sweet and a bit sour sauce makes a perfect match with the spring roll.


西班牙培根捲 $78
Steve喜歡培根,倒是我沒有很喜歡,因為刻板印象總是讓我覺得培根是一個過鹹的加工食品,但是赤崁璽樓料理培根的方式真的讓人大開眼界,清脆生菜和捲在培根裡面甜甜的黑棗,不但不覺得培根太鹹,反而平衡了這道菜鹹甜的味蕾。
Spanish Bacon Roll $78 NTD (about $2.50 USD)
We were so surprised to see a bacon dish in a vegetarian restaurant. The veggie bacon tastes just like a regular one, and Chi Kan West House use the black date to balance out the saltiness from the bacon. It’s a fun appetizer, you would get a different taste from every bite!

墨西哥捲 $68
少了點墨西哥酸酸辣辣莎莎醬和茴香的味道,最特別的是但是赤崁璽樓放進了川燙過的花椰菜,讓整個捲餅多了一點嚼勁,相較於其他兩個前菜捲餅系列,這個比較沒有那麼得到我們的青睞,老實說,愛吃墨西哥料理的我們,在台灣從來沒有找到好吃的墨西哥料理,經過那麼多次的失望,其實我們早就放棄尋找那個會讓我們想家的味道了,到最後還是回到是在自己家裡的的廚房才能真正吃到好吃的墨西哥料理!但是我們想念的是在美國的墨西哥料理,也許不是台灣人能夠接受的口味吧?!
Mexican Burrito $68 NTD (around $2.20 USD)
The burrito is not as special compares with other appetizers. One thing I do enjoy is the broccoli in the wrap. The broccoli is crunchy and totally replaces the meat texture. It would be nice to have some good sour and spicy salsa or even some spicy queso to go with it. I just feel like it’s missing something.

無油少鹽蟹殼黃蘿蔔絲餅 $38
是真的可以吃的出來是無油少鹽,口感沒有像一般飲茶餐廳的酥油層次,但是我很佩服赤崁璽樓的大廚,沒有使用油,還可以做的出脆脆、一點點鬆鬆的口感,裡面的餡料是真的很實在,吃得到一絲絲的蘿蔔,小小一顆的蘿蔔絲餅,是一個可以讓人細細品嚐的料理,吃太快會覺得有點乾,而且也吃不到餡料的風味。
Baked Radish Cake $38 NTD (about $1.20 USD)
Usually you would find this in the Cantonese Dim Sum Restaurant, and this is one of the must ordered dish whenever I visit one. The filling is quite good with pepper seasoning, and you can really see the shredded radish inside. The radish cake is known for their crispy crunchy thousands layered crust, and that usually requires tons of butter or lard. That doesn’t sound too healthy, right? But Chi Kan West House achieves almost the same texture without any oil. We were very impressed.


赤崁璽樓的餐點除了擺盤100分以外,連所有的餐盤都好講究,仔細看,每一個小盤子的花樣都不一樣,一餐吃下來,真的辛苦洗碗盤的店家了!
Chi Kan West House not only serves delicious vegetarian friendly food, but they also give a lot of thoughts on their food presentation. Even the plates they serve their food in, they all have the vintage edge to it.
鹽酥香酥塊 $280
這是Steve最喜歡的一道菜,一上菜之後,真的一根接著一根,停不下來,Steve喜歡炸的、脆的、一根一根可以用手拿起來的、可以沾醬的食物,你猜對了,Steve很喜歡吃薯條,哈哈!
其實這個就是素魚排切成條狀之後再沾粉炸的,現在懷孕的我油炸類我都淺嚐就好,但是赤崁璽樓炸的酥酥的,油瀝得很乾淨,一點油耗味都沒有。老實說,我沒有很喜歡素肉,我比較吃食物的原形,素肉對我來說是加工後的食品,但是偶爾吃,也有一點小驚喜,Steve 說這個比美國那種加工過的魚條排好吃太多了!
Crunchy Fried Fish Sticks $280 NTD (around $8.95 USD)
Who can say no to deep fried finger food?! Come on, this has Steve’s name all over it. Chi Kan West House’s fish sticks is made from soy product, so it’s 100% vegetarian friendly. The most important part is it doesn’t taste like vegetarian dish at all. It’s crunchy and flavorful. With a dip from the ketchup, it tastes like a regular fish sticks. You can tell Chi Kan West House control their oil temperature really well. The soy fish sticks stay crunchy even when it’s not hot anymore, and you can’t even taste the oil residual from the deep fryer. It’s definitely an entry level for all first time vegetarian eaters.


素滷飯 $45
乍看下真的很像一般肉燥飯,真的嚇我一跳,我以為怎麼突然不是蔬食料理了,哈哈!吃一口之後才發現上面的肉燥其實是香菇,還有一個小驚喜,除了像是肉燥的香菇之外,還有一塊像是肥肉的東西,我真的吃不出來那是什麼,但是可以擁有像是肥肉口感的蔬食,真的很厲害!肉燥飯最討厭就是醬汁不夠攪拌進去一整碗飯裡面,就是攪拌完還有白白的飯,但是赤崁璽樓的素滷飯不但平價,很有飽足感,而且攪拌進去醬汁剛剛好,味道恰到好處!
Vegetarian Minced Meat over Rice $45 NTD (about $1.45 USD)
Minced meat over rice is one of the most popular street food dish here in Taiwan. It’s usually made from chopped pork belly and cooked in the sauce for a long period of time. Chi Kan West House’s minced veggie meat sauce is quite impressive. Don’t underestimate the little dash of the sauce over rice, it’s the perfect amount to mix into the whole bowl. The price is affordable, and it really goes well with all other dishes.


義式青醬燉飯 $360
有濃郁的青醬味道,吃得出來是店家自己製作的醬料,真的只有用新鮮的羅勒和松子才能做出來的味道,每一顆米都味道很入味,不會像傳統燉飯那麼硬,軟軟的但還是都粒粒分明,這個燉飯只有少許的切丁香菇和素火腿,明顯是以醬汁燉飯當作主角的一份料理,雖然份量很夠,但是單吃可能會覺得比較無聊單薄一點,當作其他料理的配飯,剛剛好。
Italian Pesto Risotto $360 NTD (about $11.50 USD)
Very simple but also delicious. It’s the perfect representation of less is more. Chi Kan West House’s homemade pesto sauce really makes this dish shined! Although there are not many toppings on it, but it’s a tasty dish by itself. And definitely a good choice to go with all the food we had ordered.
北港麻油綜合三杯 $298
這是我最喜歡的餐點,真的超級下飯。可能我本來就很喜歡三杯料理,老姜配上麻油和九層塔真的是讓人很難拒絕,陶鍋可以讓食物維持一定的熱度,是一個超級下飯的料理,裡面有好多種不同的菇類和米血,連Steve都很捧場!
Three-Cup Mixed Mushrooms, aka Ginger & Sesame Mixed Mushrooms $298 NTD (about $9.50 USD)
This is probably my favorite dish of the all, it goes so well with the rice dish we had. I am always a big fan of the flavor from sesame oil, ginger and basil, and it gives such an amazing flavor for different kind of mushrooms inside. These mushrooms are perfectly prepared and marinated in the sauce along with some chewy vegetarian blood sticky rice cake! Since the dish is prepared in the clay pot, it really helps to maintain the heat. It’s definitely a must order for the next visit.

日式燒烤串 $78
老實說這個和其他菜色比較起來真的比較沒有那麼特別,但是外觀看起來真的和一般日式居酒家的燒烤肉串一樣,其實裡面是穿插了杏鮑菇、黃瓜和紅蘿蔔,鹹鹹甜甜的日式照燒醬,漂亮加上香氣十足的食物,吃起來味覺真的會加分,簡單的食材顯現出蔬菜和菇類的輕甜味,記得要趁熱吃喔!
Japanese Kabob $78 NTD (around $2.50 USD)
I know this kabob is so Instagram worthy... but make sure you dig in before it gets cold. This dish definitely tastes better when it’s warm. Chi Kan West House used different kind of mushrooms to mimic the meat portion on the kabob. All ingredients are only lightly seasoned in Japanese teppanyaki sauce and gently grilled to keep the moistures inside. It's simple but really let these ingredients shine on their own.


康福茶
這和我們之前喝過的康福茶都不太一樣,是由店家自己調配的,除了茶包以外,還可以看到甘草和枸杞,很香的康福茶,有濃濃薄荷味道,能夠讓吃了一餐嘴裡充滿不同味道的我們,喝了康福茶,不但能淡定心情,還可以沖淡嘴裡食物的味道,讓我們可以盡情享受飯後時光,一邊聊天、一邊喝茶、一邊享受接下來的甜點。
Kangfu Tea (aka Comforting Tea) 
The tea is refreshing that it really cleansed your tastebuds after having everything. I have tried comforting tea elsewhere, but Chi Kan West House’s tea has the most licorice flavor. We really enjoy it, and you can get multiple free hot water refills!



奶香布丁盆栽
一開始我以為是奶酪,但是吃起來的口感比較像是牛奶布丁,清爽且不會太甜,主要甜味反而是從上面的餅乾屑,吃完晚餐來一點甜點,但是又不會感覺很有負擔,是一個完美的句點。
Milky Pudding (This is included in the risotto meal combo) 
From the appearance, it looks just like a tiny plant. It’s almost too adorable to eat it. The pudding itself is not too sweet, you would get the most sweetness from the crushed cookies on the top. It’s a nice ending to the meal.


吃不完的餐點,赤崁璽樓還特別幫我們打包,連打包都要這麼講究。雖然我們在回高雄的路上,Steve就把剩菜吃了一大半,但是真的很貼心。
Chi Kan West House has the cutest doggie bag for all our leftover! It’s so sweet!

真的建議大家可以來赤崁璽樓吃晚餐,大家可以預約早一點的時間開始用餐,如此可以看到古色古香的赤崁璽樓從白天到黑夜的轉變,晚上的赤崁璽樓又是一種不一樣的感覺。
I highly recommend people come in for the dinner, so you can enjoy the view of the house from daytime into nighttime! It’s a treat to see the transformation of the house from day to night. With all the lights lit up at night, it’s a totally different experience!
燈光打在赤崁璽樓上,閃爍的光芒配上赤崁璽樓獨特的窗框打在牆上的影子,光影相互輝映,給了這個老房子一個不一樣的新生命。

晚上的赤崁璽樓,你可以看到環繞建築物陽台上的獨特燈飾,仔細看看,每一盞都不一樣,真的很有趣。
The surrounded balcony in each floor is probably my favorite of Chi Kan West House. I just noticed that all the overhead lights are different, various shapes of shadow on the white wall are gorgeous.






在赤崁璽樓吃晚餐,不知不覺3小時就過去了,我們從尋找餐廳就開始了一個好特別的用餐經驗,走進繁忙的台南市區小巷子中,映入眼簾讓人驚豔的老房子-赤崁璽樓,這一頓飯,不只是為了擁有飽足感,而是一種滿足五官的饗宴,難得到了台南,我們真的很開心能夠享用一頓吃完不會有罪惡感的餐點,利用當季食材烹調出健康、美味又天然的中西異國蔬食料理,赤崁璽樓也在今年度推出更多的單點料理,讓我們在同一個餐桌上,享用到不同風味的餐點,為這趟旅程畫下完美的句點。
Time really went by so fast when you are doing something you enjoy. I can’t believe we actually stay in Chi Kan West House for over 3 hours. Having a meal in Chi Kan West House is more than just a simple dinner, it’s more like a whole travel experience to different universe. This is definitely a new dining out option for us now, and we would really drive 40 mins from Kaohsiung to Tainan for Chi Kan West House. Because it’s so worth it! Since Chi Kan West House offers a variety of food from both local Taiwanese cuisine and foreign exotic food, there is going to be something for everyone. Anyone would enjoy dining in Chi Kan West House regardless your dietary choice. Special thanks for Chi Kan West House for providing us this memorable experience for us.
